On February 4, community leaders, parents, educators, and representatives from the City of Oak Harbor, NAS Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor Police Department, and several other community organizations gathered at Oak Harbor Public Schools to discuss school safety.

The Superintendent Community Roundtable is a space that brings together diverse perspectives to learn about district operations, discuss key topics, and strengthen two-way communication and problem solving with trusted voices and ambassadors of the #OneOakHarbor school community. 

Participants of Wednesday’s session gained an inside look at how the district addresses school safety in and out of the classroom, and how to participate in supporting safety in and around our schools. Maintaining safety for students, families, staff, and citizens is a collective responsibility that depends on a coordinated, community-wide effort.

Principal Russ Peters has recently shared his decision to retire following 11 impactful years of service to North Whidbey Middle School. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Peters has been a steady and caring leader who has made a lasting difference for students, staff, and families. He will be fondly remembered for the warmth and joy he brought to the school community; from his welcoming presence each day to his much-loved karaoke lunch debuts that brought smiles, laughter, and connection to the students and staff of North Whidbey. We are deeply grateful for his dedication and the legacy he leaves behind.

Following thoughtful conversations with students, staff, and administrators, Oak Harbor Public Schools is pleased to announce that Mr. Beez Lucero has been selected as the next principal of North Whidbey Middle School.

Mr. Lucero is a trusted and familiar leader within the NWMS community, having served as assistant principal for more than three years. He brings extensive experience as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and high school principal. In the past, he has also stepped into the role of building leader at North Whidbey, demonstrating the steady leadership, care, and commitment to our community values.

“North Whidbey is an incredible school and I am excited to continue the important work we have been doing with our tremendous staff, students, and families,” said Mr. Lucero.

Join us for the next School District Wellness Committee meeting! We'll be discussing important policies and initiatives to support the health and well-being of our students and staff. In the context of the federal nutrition program requirements, the wellness committee plays a crucial role in developing and implementing school wellness policies that promote healthy eating and physical activity. 

"Reptile Lady" April Jackson visited Broad View Elementary with a variety of reptiles. Thank you to Ms. Jackson for educating students about multiple different reptiles!

The Seahawks Fanbulance came to Oak Harbor Elementary! Students were encouraged to wear their Seahawks gear or blue and green to show OHE’s support for the Seattle Seahawks’ hoped-for Super Bowl victory this Sunday.

Rob Brown from the Fanbulance crew shared, "The Fanbulance Crew had soooooo much fun being at OHE, The students and staff had a great time cheering on the Seattle Seahawks for their Super Bowl revisit this season….GO HAWKS..GO OHE!!!!"

Game Time Set – 3A State Tournament! 🏈

Game time is officially set for Wildcat Girls Flag Football!

The girls will open the 3A State Tournament with a matchup against Seattle Prep at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle on Saturday, February 7 at 12:30 PM.

If the Wildcats win, they’ll be right back at it with their next game at 2:00 PM, also on Saturday at the same location.
